Point-of-care testing – a reality
to be dealt with
Report on a seminar on 19 November 2002
Arranged by the Swedish Association
of Health Professionals and the Swedish
Institute for Biomedical Laboratory Science (IBL)
Foreword
Point-of-care testing in healthcare is a reality in which biomedical
scientists have an important role to play. We therefore need to
gain a picture of where development has reached, where it is headed
and how we can influence it. This is the background to the seminar
on point-of-care testing which the Swedish Association of Health
Professionals and the Swedish Institute for Biomedical Laboratory
Science (IBL) jointly arranged at the end of 2002.
The intention behind the seminar – and this summary –
is to stimulate discussions and initiate a dialogue with other players
on how point-of-care testing activity should be pursued and organised.
By collecting some of them, and issuing this report, the organisers
hope to contribute to a build-up of knowledge and broadened perspectives
on the topic, because point-of-care testing in healthcare has come
to stay – and to be developed!
