Professional statement: Gabriele entered the profession of Biomedical Science in1981 at the Maternity Hospital Salzburg. After a career break of 5 years (2 children) she started working at the Department of Internal Medicine in 1992 mainly concerned with research in the area of coronary heart diseases.

Due to her interest in Genetics she was offered the post of a BMS at the Institute of Clinical Genetics at the University Clinics of Salzburg. She is currently concerned with cyto-genetic and molecular genetic investigations focusing on postnatal karyotyping, Y-chromosomal micro-deletions in infertile males, Prader Willi/ Angelman Syndrome diagnostics by methylation-specific PCR, Cystic Fibrosis Screening (identification of Cystic Fibrosis Trans-membrane Conductance Regulator [CFTR] by reverse hybridization and Multiplex Ligation Dependent Probe Amplification (MLPA) of subtelomeric regions in patients with mental retardation of unknown origin.
She lectures at the Austrian Academy of BMS in practical work on the subjects mentioned above and advises students in thesis writing.

Additionally Gabriele has a wide range of Information Technology (IT) skills e.g. Word, Excel, Access, Frontpage, Power Point, Sequencing and Karyotyping Software, Programming databases and as such is training hospital staff in application of various IT Systems.

From 1998 – 2005 Gabriele served as the Vice-President of the Austrian Association for BMS – biomed austria.

Since 2002 she is the General Secretary of the EPBS, a challenge to which she had risen in order to promote BMS in Europe.

Personal interests: Gabriele is active in various kinds of sports such as skiing, mountain-biking, sailing and rowing and annually participates in the local rowing competition of the Rowing Club Wolfgangsee in St. Gilgen near Salzburg.

Moreover she likes painting and enjoying nature as enrichments to her scientific work.
