Professional qualifications: EU latest
The report, Professional qualifications: mutual recognition
of the regulated professions to ensure free movement, was passed
by the European Parliament in February 2004 and is now awaiting
the position from the Council. A summary of the main provisions
as passed by Parliament are available on the European Parliament's
Legislative
Observatory.
In the meantime the United Kingdom's Department of Health has released
guidance on European Union enlargement and implications for
health professions. The guidance, which includes recognition
of qualifications and Worker Registration Scheme, can be found on
the Department
of Health's website.
EPBS to attend European Commission's Open Forum
Martin Nicholson, President of EPBS, will be attending the European
Commission's "Open Forum" conference for health stakeholders
to be held In Brussels on the 17th May 2004. more

EU Blood Directive: special meeting
The Institute of Biomedical Science and British Blood Transfusion
Society are hosting a special meeting in June 2004 with speakers
from around Europe talking about the implications of the directive.

Blood Directive updated
The Directive 2002/98/EC has been updated. This is an important
document, setting standards of quality and safety for the collection,
testing, processing, storage and distribution of human blood and
blood components.

European Parliament votes on mutual recognition
directive
The European Parliament has voted on the draft directive on the
Mutual Recognition of Professional Qualifications. Members of the
European Parliament (MEPs) supported amendments that may require
health and social care professionals to register with the relevant
competent authorities when working in a host member state. more
